~ Nainital Revisited ~

Arnav sped through the streets of Delhi as he made his way towards Nainital. He was late for his meeting. This wasn’t like him.

“It’s all Khushi’s fault. Who asked her to start fighting with me early in the morning? That too for no bloody fault of mine.” Arnav grumbled as he navigated through the heavy traffic on the road. He hated leaving Khushi after an argument.

Reaching the highway, he expected the traffic to loosen up a little. On the contrary, Arnav faced a jam packed road. Uttering curses, Arnav turned off the engine as he waited it out.

“Hey Devi Maiyya! Dekhke chala nahi sakte gaadi ko? Kis tarah ke insaan hai app?”

“What the hell?” Arnav uttered in disbelief. ‘The voice seemed to be coming from…. –‘

“Maar daalte mujhe aap! Unbelievable!”

Arnav swiftly got out of his car and opened the boot of his car….expecting to see her cowering inside - with a box of pakodas to keep her company.

He was greeted with an empty space. No Khushi. No pakodas.

“Now she’s messing with my head too. Damnit.” Arnav shook his head as he made his way back to the driver’s seat – missing the woman on the Scooty.

A woman who had hazel colored eyes with flecks of gold in them, and a veil covering her face. For good measure.

Khushi breathed in relief. Damn the driver who had intercepted her before. She had nearly revealed her presence to Arnav. Her surprise for Arnav was still in place. If only she could keep up her disguise till they reached Nainital.

‘Laad Governor kahin ke.’ She muttered to herself as she moved her vehicle further away from Arnav’s car, lest he recognize her.

~Manorama’s Beauty Parlor~

Arnav walked down the stairs into the hall only to halt in complete surprise. In front of him, sitting all around the drawing room, were his AR models.

Talking and gossiping in those high pitched voices that made sure Arnav didn’t receive the silence he preferred early in the morning.

He approached his top model, Lisa and asked her grimly,” What the hell are you all doing here at 8 in the morning?”

Lisa gave him an incredulous look, as if telling him he was the last person to be asking such questions, but before she could respond, a different person replied behind Arnav –

“Maine bulaaya inn sab ko Arnav!”

Arnav swerved around, ready to blast the person who dared to disrupt his perfect morning, but stopped short.

For Manorama Mami stood in front of him - clad in around 50 layers of make-up.

Arnav gave her a once-over, before looking around, trying to locate Khushi for an explanation…. to no luck. Giving up, he turned back to Mami when she said excitedly –

“Arnav bitwa! I is opening a beauty parlor! ‘Manorama Beauty Parlor’ ”

“What The!” was the astounded reply Arnav managed to give her.

“What the mat karo Arnav! Ab hum sabki makeupiya karenge! Aur sabse pehle…. AR ke saare models ki makeupiya karenge hum!” were Mami’s parting words as she sashayed over to the models and started chatting with them.

‘Oh Dear Lord.’ Arnav whispered.

   L is for …
~Loveria Hua~

Lavanya walked into Raizada Mansion, wearing a deep sky blue net saree with amber orange embroidered edges.

‘She looks like a diva.’

Brushing away the tendrils of hair that fell on her eyes, Lavanya greeted everyone present in the hall warmly – Nani, Mami, Anjali, Shyam and finally Arnav. She frowned at the bad joke Arnav cracked at her, and playfully hit him while admonishing him.

‘Maybe this is why I was single all this while. My soul was waiting for her.’

A frown formed on her face as she failed to locate Khushi and she began searching the room with her eyes. Locating Khushi standing by the staircase with NK, she flashed them a brilliant smile… and made her way towards them.
NK sighed deeply and nudged Khushi as he whispered,“ Khushi ji…. mujhe Malaria ho gaya.”
Suppressing a smile, Khushi said,” Malaria nahi Nanheji, Loveria hua.”

    K is for …
~Kati Patang~

She walked ahead, in a daze, not realizing where she was heading. Rain fell down in pellets, drenching her completely, but Khushi couldn’t care less.

She didn’t feel pain anymore.

Not after what she had gone through.

Thoughts flashed across her mind, making her reflect on her life – the good, bad and the worst.

One thing was clear enough though – he never loved her. He wouldn’t have treated her the way he did if he had actually, truly loved her. He had instead let his hatred overshadow everything…. and had hurt her incessantly.

Not any more.

Khushi reached the edge of the cliff. She stood there, staring at the abyss below her. The wind blew across her face, and she looked up at the steadily darkening sky.

The stars had come out.

Khushi looked at a set of particularly bright stars, and whispered into the wind “I’m coming home, Ma.”

And then she jumped.

For a moment, she was free. Free from wrong assumptions, free from hatred, free from accusing eyes - free from everything.

She fell, like a kite severed from its string.

A Kati Patang.

     J is for …
~Juicy Kahaani~

“Make way! Make way!” Khushi called out as she rushed through the hall, trying to get to Nani’s room so that she could give her some juice, as her sugar levels had come down. “Move away Om Prakash ji! This train isn’t going to stop before the station!”

But it had to.

For Arnav had stepped into her path, and the juice into his.

Arnav Singh Raizada stood in front of Khushi, bathed in Mango juice.

Giving her an exasperated look, Arnav looked at his shirt to survey the damage.

Khushi mentally prepared herself for the verbal onslaught to follow, but she was taken aback by a chuckle from Arnav.

She looked at him in surprise.. to find him smiling at her. He asked her,” What happened this time? You didn’t find Orange juice yet again?”

Smiling at Arnav, Khushi retorted cheekily,” Will you wait a minute? I can get Orange juice if you prefer that.”

Arnav gave her one of his special glares before he burst out laughing, with Khushi joining him a moment later.

~I Love You Dammit!~

“Arnav!” Khushi called, as she barged into the house, to find him seated on the sofa, laptop in hand.

Khushi marched towards him, picked his laptop and shutting it forcefully, she set it down on the table.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” Arnav demanded furiously.

“Don’t you dare question me, Mr. Raizada. I’m very angry right now! Who asked you to skip breakfast today morning? As a result, you go fainting all around Delhi… and Aman has to bring you home in such a sorry state! And then I have to freak out and come all the way here to see you working -”

“Woah… Khushi!” Arnav interrupted Khushi’s tirade. Standing up, he towered over Khushi as he said, “Why do you care anyway? You just fought with me today morning!”

“Why do I care?” Khushi retorted as she started moving towards Arnav Just because I fight with you doesn’t mean I don’t care for you!”

Arnav started moving backwards to counter Khushi’s angered pace. Pressed up against the wall, Arnav said defensively,” Look Khushi… I don’t like this cornering business that you’re doing right now. Besides, I never asked you to freak out just because I fainted! Why should I affect you in such a way anyway?”

“Because I love you dammit!” Khushi said aggressively, while Arnav stared at her, shocked.

A sound behind them made them realize that the entire family had been witness to Khushi’s confession. They stood behind – Nani, Mami, Anjali, Mamaji, and NK – with their mouths open.

Khushi stared back at them for a few moments. Then, blushing furiously, she rushed out of their house, mumbling continuously to herself.

Their eyes followed Khushi’s retreating back… and then focused on Arnav.

With a smirk on his face, Arnav picked up his laptop and said,” Well? Why are you all standing shell-shocked? Don’t you have wedding preparations to do?” as he continued walking towards his room.

~Hai Re Nandakishore!!~

“Hai re Nandakishore!” Madhumati Bua exclaimed as she spotted NK cowering behind a set of curtains in Raizada Mansion. “Idhar kaa kar rahe ho Nandakishore?”

“Nothing, Buaji” NK stammered as he made an attempt at moving away from Buaji…. to no luck.

Buaji grabbed NK’s arm and peering at him closely, she asked him,” Shaadi kab karne ka khayal hai, Babua?”

“What?” NK spluttered, startled by the sudden question.

“Shaadi Babua! Shaadi! Ab aur kitne din iss tarah akele akele pardo ke peeche chipthe rahoge?”

NK’s attempts to free himself from Buaji’s clutch renewed tenfold as he continued mumbling inconsequential answers to her.

“Arre bolo na Babua! Humaare ghar ke paas ek ladki hai, usse tumhaare baat karva sakte hai hum. Uska naam pata hai kya hai?”

Sucessfully freeing himself from Buaji’s grip, NK faced her warily and asked her “Kya hai?”

Buaji smiled at NK as she said “Madhumati.”

NK ran for his life.
